Dread it! Run from it! Destiny still arrives
And just like that, another year has passed, almost in the blink of an eye. What did you achieve this year? Or, let me ask you - did you even wanted to achieve anything this year?
Many of us don’t plan what we want to accomplish, and that’s why it feels like another year has passed us by, just like that. But no - it didn’t just vanish. For many of us, it was a long rollercoaster ride, filled with challenges to overcome and achievements to celebrate. Without a solid plan, everything will feel like it disappears in the blink of an eye.
This blog might sound a little biased toward doctors - and that’s because I recently met one. I was struck by how incredibly busy his schedule is, yet it’s so full of life, aspirations, and purpose.
As financial advisors, we can relate. Both professions share the same core idea: serving people, doing something meaningful for them, keeping them safe, and guiding them toward better health - be it physical or financial.
But here’s the catch - serving doctors when it comes to financial planning is not easy. The biggest challenge is time. The time commitment required for their profession is unparalleled, making it difficult for us financial advisors to sit with them for even half an hour to discuss their finances. This is the reason many doctors rely on bankers, agents, family members, or the godfather of all - YouTube. But let me ask - is this really the way?
I recently visited a doctor because of a fever, and as soon as I told him I had taken random medicines from a medical store without consulting anyone, he immediately scolded me. “How could you take medicines without consulting a doctor? It’s dangerous! You should always see a professional,” he said firmly.
I nodded and replied, “You’re right, sir. But let me ask you - you think consulting a doctor is a must rather than self-medicating?”
Without hesitation, he replied, “Definitely! It’s not even a question. You need a proper diagnosis.”
“Exactly,” I said, leaning in a bit. “Then why don’t you apply the same logic to your finances?”
He looked at me, puzzled. “What do you mean?”
“Sir, I’m not specifically pointing at you, but many in your profession take financial advice from agents, bankers, brokers - even friends and family. Or worse, you turn to YouTube. It’s like picking medicines off a shelf without understanding the symptoms,” I explained.
He stared at me, now fully engaged. “Go on,” he said curiously.
“A financial advisor, much like a doctor, doesn’t just prescribe products. We diagnose. We examine your entire financial health - from budgeting and insurance to aspirations, retirement, tax planning, and even succession planning. What does money mean to you and what do you want to do with it? Only then do we prescribe solutions that are right for you - not just some random product,” I continued.
He leaned back, thinking. “I never thought of it that way.”
“Exactly, sir. And I know the biggest challenge for doctors is time. That’s why, at Infinity Wealth Advisor, we offer special services tailored for busy professionals like you. We’re available on weekends and even late at night - whenever you can spare an hour. Let us step in, diagnose your financial health, and help you plan ahead. Involve your spouse, too, so she can take charge when work keeps you occupied.”
He smiled slightly, perhaps imagining how many unchecked areas of his financial life could use some attention.
There are always solutions - there’s always a better way to look at things. But often, we focus only on what’s easily accessible. We say things like, “How fast 2024 went!” or “2025 is just 20 days away!”
But have you thought about this: How far is your retirement? Your child’s education? Your next big health-related expense or your next real estate purchase?
As the saying goes: “The rich invest in time, the poor invest in money.”
Plan ahead, before time plans for you. Because we all know what time does - it forces you to settle for less. So, let’s take control. Let’s plan.
For doctors, for professionals, and for anyone who wants to achieve their dreams - 2025 doesn’t have to be another year that vanishes like the snap of a finger. Make it the year where you take charge of your financial health, just like you care for your physical health.
