Your Wealth, Your Life: Make the Most of Both
Your Wealth, Your Life: Make the Most of Both
Recently, I had a conversation with an elderly gentleman, and we began discussing the deep connection between life and money. He shared a thought-provoking Gujarati quote: "Je tamme maanii sako, eh tamaru... baaki badhu gaam nu." Translated, it means: "Whatever you can spend or enjoy is yours... the rest is not yours, it belongs to others."
This reminded me of a fascinating story from Paulo Coelho's book. The renowned pianist Arthur Rubinstein was once late for lunch at an upscale New York restaurant. Known for his simplicity, he surprised his friends that afternoon by ordering the most expensive dishes and rare wines. At the end of the meal, he paid the bill with a smile. Seeing their puzzled faces, he explained, “Today I went to see my lawyer to draw up my will. I left a generous amount for my daughter, relatives, and charities. Then I realized, I wasn’t included in my will. All my money was going to others. So I decided, from now on, I’ll be more generous with myself.”
Rubinstein’s story offers a powerful reminder: life is meant to be lived and enjoyed. Are you doing the same with your hard-earned money? We often save and plan for the future, but in the process, we forget to treat ourselves in the present.
